Vedad Ibisevic will make his Stuttgart debut on Sunday after arriving from Hoffenheim and coach Bruno Labbadia hopes he can help the Swabians end a three-game losing streak.
Stuttgart last won over two months ago and have since lost four of their last five Bundesliga matches to slip out of contention for a place in Europe next season.
That slide convinced club bosses to spend in the region of five million euros (£4.2million) on Ibisevic and he will be thrown straight into the action against in-form Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday.
"Vedad will play - he is in top shape," said Labbadia at the pre-match press conference.
"With Vedad, we have got the striker that we wanted. His strength is in the penalty area and that is where we have got to give him the ball.
"We are more versatile with him and we can play different systems, but not only Vedad has to perform against Gladbach, but the whole team has to."
Matthieu Delpierre is also on the way back from injury and he will play for Stuttgart's reserve team on Sunday with Labbadia looking forward to having him available again soon.
"In the first eight or nine games of the season, we were one of the strongest sides in the league defensively, but we have been negligent recently," he said.
"We have got to change that. Regardless of who we are playing, we have got to be more compact."
Labbadia is certain to have seen Gladbach's 3-1 win over Bayern Munich last weekend and that game will be a warning to his side, in particular the defence.
But Gladbach's coach Lucien Favre insists that performance and result must now be ignored as they prepare for a completely new challenge at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
"It is going to be very tough in Stuttgart," Favre said. "And we have got to keep our feet on the ground after the Bayern game."
Dante is an option for Favre after suspension, but the Swiss coach may be tempted to stick with the side which impressed against Bayern.
