Team news for Tuesday's League One clash between Notts County and Sheffield United at Meadow Lane.

Veteran striker Lee Hughes will be absent from the Notts County squad.

Hughes has recently returned from suspension but was not involved on Saturday when the Magpies hosted Sheffield Wednesday and the 35-year-old is set to miss out once more.

On-loan winger Lloyd Sam staked his claim for a start by coming off the bench to score on his debut in the defeat to the Owls.

Defender Krystian Pearce, midfielder Hamza Bencherif and striker Ben Burgess are among the other options available to manager Keith Curle.

Meanwhile, Billy Paynter's loan move to Notts is off. The Leeds striker was set to join the Magpies in time for him to be included in the squad to face the Blades.

However, after another Leeds striker picked up an injury at the weekend, Whites boss Neil Warnock has decided he could not afford to let Paynter leave Elland Road.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United midfielder Kevin McDonald could make a surprise return to the squad.

McDonald, sidelined since mid-February with a hamstring injury, returned to full training on Monday and could be included in Danny Wilson's squad if he suffers no reaction.

Fellow midfielder Nick Montgomery has joined Millwall on loan until the end of the season and defender Lecsinel Jean-Francois sustained a season-ending knee injury earlier this month.

But another defender, Andy Taylor, could return to contention after being rested, while strikers James Beattie and Richard Cresswell and defender Marcus Williams are all pushing for recalls after stepping off the substitutes' bench in the weekend draw with Tranmere.

Wilson has no new injury or suspension problems as the Blades bid to stay ahead of the chasing pack and retain second place.
